1961. A father and his daughter are trying to meet in Berlin after seventeen years of separation. He is from Soviet-occupied Lithuania and she is an émigré living in the United States. Even though there is a “thawing” period in the Soviet Union and the Berlin Wall has yet to be erected, the Cold War is still very chilly. As soon as the father arrives in Berlin, undercover KGB agents begin harassing him. They also try to entice the daughter to come to the East. She, however, is wary and afraid to cross the border from West Berlin. Will these personal and political tensions prevent them from meeting after all these years? The gripping BACK TO YOUR ARMS was Lithuania’s official submission to the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 84th Academy Awards 2012.
