Labas, Mieli Skaitytojai,

We are fast-approaching the epitome of the year – spring break!
For those who get to celebrate this special time – be safe on the slopes.

Last Sunday’s Vasario 16 Minejimas speaker Vidmantas Valiusaitis had the audience listening in rapt, hear-a-pin-drop silence.  He spoke about the relevance of the February date through the last hundred years, and then spoke about the current state of Lithuanians and their lives.
Sadly, the full-length film by Algis Kuzmickas was not available, so the audience had to settle for a trailer of his up-coming film, Pavergtuju Sukilimas.  We hope to have an opportunity to see his work in the not-too-distant future.

AND this week-end, don’t forget…..

St. Casimir’s luncheon: Feb 27th following the 12:00 noon mass.
Tickets are $25.00 in advance; $15.00 for students (aged 10 to 16) OR $30.00 at the door.
There will be a hot lunch, with wine, a short programme presented by ‘Aleksandro versija13oji’, and a loterija as well.
All are welcome to attend.
It’s a great opportunity to renew old friendships or make new friends.

This also means that the season of Lent will soon begin, but not before we mark  – Mardi Gras – Uzgavenes!

Sunday, March 6th: traditional Blynu Pietus at Ausros Vartai.  Always great food, provided by the culinary talents
of Dana and the Siauliai.

Saturday, March12th: The Ottawa Lithuanian Community invites us all to a Mardi Gras get-together.
It’s a beautiful town to visit: galleries, skating, and now….blynai!

Moving along the calendar:
Sunday, March 13th:  Lithuania’s new independence day, March 11th, will be commemorated at 12 noon.

Sunday, March 20th:  Ausros Vartu annual parishioners meeting at 12noon.
Two parish committee members’ terms are coming to an end. Anyone interested in lending a hand in the running of the parish should now submit their offer to stand as candidates.  The deadline for applications is March 13th, and the parishioners will elect the new committee members on March 20th.  If no candidates present themselves, the two current members can be acclaimed for another term.
Coffee and cake will be served.
